The direct Hume Highway route covers 878km in approximately 9 hours of driving. The coastal Princes Highway adds 200km but passes through stunning South Coast beaches, Bega Valley cheese country and the Gippsland Lakes system providing a far more scenic experience.
Best Stops on the Hume Highway
Mittagong and Bowral in the Southern Highlands offer excellent cafes and the spectacular Tulip Time festival in September each year. Gundagai is quintessential country Australia with the famous Dog on the Tuckerbox monument and great pie shops. Albury-Wodonga straddles the Murray River state border with excellent dining options.
